I think that is the main thing, you put whatever bait in the fishes face.
When is a jig used up ? I broke my trash jig off and picked up a used and abused jig out of the boat. It still helped me catch 40 today . Gave the limit I kept to a neighbor. No fish photo, but one of what's left of a Takeum jig after several days of getting thumped. Andrew Schmidt these things get used and abused , but still catching limits . Really helps if presented on the crappie's nose .

If they are still catching fish then they are not worn out.
I agree, when there ain’t no point left! Good thought provoking post.

When is a jig worn out? Just depends on where you get it and how it’s made. Plastic jigs can be anywhere from a Bobby Garland that uses a soft plastisol that won’t last long to a a company that uses a hard plastisol that will last a really long time. Hand ties be junk you buy at the store that won’t last long to someone that puts a little extra in it and last for what seems like forever.
I usually get several trips out of a handtied from Takeum . Some people would not believe how many Crappie can be caught on a jig. I know guys that used to toss a jig if it looked worn or eyes fell off. I have seen wrap come off , lead get lose , and paint start falling off but Crappie keep right on thumping it. If hook is good i keep using it. Have used them till hook broke a few times .

My jig is worn out when a brushpile claims it.

my jigs only get the wore out label when they rust out and break or bend out terribly easy ...
a super tired falling apart hand tie just gets stripped and a plastic put on it ....
and if said hand tie is a real trooper and don't tatter up easily and get's it's pretty paint all chipped off , I might give it a new paint job on the head after the fish ate all the original paint off it ....just saying
sum kawl me tha outlaw ketchn whalesNIMROD thanked you for this post
I caught a $1500 fish on this worn out jig a couple years ago in Crappie USA classic.
