Why are Crappie so difficult for so many to catch

my first suggestion to the wanting to ketch crappie crowd is go with a stiff ultralite and a very small offering on light line , and go SLOW and then SLOWER and for ANYTHING that could be even possibly a bite , it gets a hook set ....
once you realize a large portion of crappie bites are very light bites , you will become way better at ketchn them.

I catfished my whole life until a few years ago when I fell in love with crappie fishing. It took me forever to realize I was getting bit. Still not good at detecting a really lite bite. But from all those years of waiting for a catfish to completely “take it”,I still catch myself waiting for crappie to do the same when I know I’m getting a bite. Hard to explain but hard to break the habit too. Lol

Dan, Catching the elusive crappie demon is an addictive pastime for sure. After many years of not fishing (yes, I am ashamed to admit it), I decided I needed to get back to it. In my life I have caught catfish, bass and many other species of the water citizens that abound in my area. Not since my childhood have I actively targeted crappie. This site has been an great help to me to begin to learn how its done. My daughter thinks I am some kind of awesome crappie guy. Personally, I am just a beginner and learn something each outing. Location, temperatures bait, presentation, and rod control. plus many other factors, are factors. To me , as I told my daughter, practice and patience are what makes tings better. UnLikeU is right on with his outlook. I have learned that the bite of the elusive crappie is not like a bass or a catfish. Paying attention to your line and trying to find an appropriate depth is essential. learning the feel of a hit is an individual thing. I am in the processes of dialing in my reaction to possible hits and it is just starting to payoff. I just can't quit it now, lol. The guys here are all super folk and always ready to assist us beginners. Not every technique is right for every person, but don't be afraid to try. Now here I go going on and on again. .
