I've got three years' worth of BFS stuff now and enjoy it more and more. Some of my equipment is pricey but nothing like what comes out of Japan. I have a couple of Dobyn's rods and a Jenko Double Down, and they are good, but not my favorites. I have a Chinese knock off fiberglass rod that works really well for small trout. I believe the Japanese master in the video is also using a (high $$ japanese) fiberglass. My favorites are a 25 yr old All Star salt water UL shrimping rod and a Bass Pro $55 lightweight. I believe the US manufacturers are looking in the wrong direction with their thin carbon rods. I even have an old Browning fiberglass medium rod that will throw a light jig forever. In Crappie jigs a 1/32 is about as doable as with a spinning reel, but I seldom throw that weight. My favorite weight is 1/24, and I can throw that or 1/16 as far as I ever need to. I also have the Kast King Zephyr set, and it's pretty good. Don't get suckered into the high$$ Japanese market for BFS crappie fishing. There are a lot less expensive alternatives, especially in rods. The reels are specialized, so good ones are a little more expensive. I also would not go the replacement spools route unless you are trying to compete with the JDM UL market. I use my BFS stuff for all species.
