    Default Looking for a rod...

I really don't know much about crappie fishing. Basically I have drag fished after the spawn for a few trips and do vertical jigging in the late fall and early winter. I haven't needed long casts. However, I recently have been fishing lay downs and in order to keep out far enough to be beyond the farthest limbs I can not cast as close to the trunk as I would like. I've been using my Ned rods which don't really work on 1/16 oz baits very well. I need a rod that will cast a 1/16 oz with a 1000 reel and braided line. I looked at BPS for a while in Springfield and walked away confused. What I need is some recommendations so I can go back with some knowledge. Thanks.

I like the Bass Pro ultralights myself for casting small jigs

Graphite...rated for 1/16 oz jigs and or 4lb test....between 5.5 and 7 ft. In length... too many good rods to list.....there's an ozark trail rod at Wal-Mart that would be perfect for you to try. 35$ 5.5 ft IM7 blank. Got a split handle looks it's made from fake wood and the blank is light grey at the handle...

I can't break and neither could Ketchn.

You can get overwhelmed at BPS for sure.

My choice is a Berkley Lightning rod medium 1pc. I believe it's 6' 6". BPS has them and some Walmarts for $40. Last I knew they were on the same side as the crappie jigs, down a couple aisles. It's medium but has a pretty fast tip, almost more like a medium light. Handles a 1/16oz jig perfectly. I use a slightly larger reel on them, 2500.

If you don't want to break the bank you can try a Okuma Celilo medium light spinning rod. I like a 6.5 or 7 footer for casting. You can find them on Amazon or EBay. Not a bad rod for $35. I like stated there are alot of rods out there and I own around 75 spinning rods (a story for another day). You have lots of options at ever price range. In general you want a 6-7ft medium light rod with a fast tip.
