tough year for the fawns it seems here , that doe likely had one I never saw , but every fawn we do see is a lone one , have yet to see the normal doubles , played with one on the way down that dirt road on the way in and it was crazy as a deer gets running like a jack rabbit fast back and forth for a long ways , not sure what that was all about , mom just stood there watching with me ....

Fish started a bit off schedule and had to work hard for the first 75 or so crappie .

knowing certain spots and how many are in the water underfoot and knowing you CAN make them bite contrary to popular imaginations , makes it sometimes a bit more complicated to get them to cooperate than others , there are days I or we walk up and just start to hammer first pitch and then them others where it takes a few minutes to dial up to what the fish want to see .

With the raising cost of food, one would think a free nice meal of fresh fish would be a treat.
People today amaze me, not in a good way.

Well sure they would if you clean them, cook them, put in a nice container then have DoorDash deliver them to their house!

it is almost that bad , some folks want them filleted and bagged and frozen AND even had one person tell me how many per bag one time !

after watching folks in several cases clean fish , this is quite possible , had a fella offer to help me clean a stack one day and he totally destroyed 2 of my largest crappie in the mix , it horrified me to see such a waste and he was pretty darn proud of his hack job.
cut the tail off about an inch or 2 into the body, cut the head off about an inch or 2 behind the gill plate and then the fins about a half into from the area the fins quit and there was about 1/4 of the fish left when he was all smiles saying look how pretty that is ......

took a new friend out and usually I leave him the fish but this time he wanted to clean them with me. He is as ancient as I am talked about how he has been ketchn fish since he was a lad and then I watched Horrified as he proceeded to butcher a nice crappie in front of me! it was all I could stand to watch him do one and ended up with a skinny half of a filet when that was all I could stands and had to intercede. You hate to tell a grown man what the heck are you doing but I did. I showed him how to do it properly and then watched him do a half way job on the next and had to show him again and then again. but finally he got the hang of it. Can't imagine him butchering fish like that his whole life as he literally ended up with a quarter of the meat he should get from a normal filet.

as far as who is willing to take fish whole and filet them I have several I have at both my lake places where I can call them and say I've got a bucket full o crappie and then will scamper over and take them. Or at my LSL place will stop by and play fish monger, as this guy will take 7 or so and then the next wants the rest.

I am on the other end for catfish at LSL as have a buddy who loves to go out at night and ketchm but doesn't want to clean so will call me and say I've got some down at the dock next to your boat on a stringer. Then I call another friend and have HIM go down and clean them there and we share in the ketch and cook em up for the feast.

used to hang with a fella sometimes that liked to clean them and gave him ice chests full of them quite often , lack of returns on the ice chests and not donating to the cost of the ice made me rethink it after several replaced ice chests .....
