Pre spawn pattern
Hey guys,
This Ohio weather in early spring is very inconsistent, 65+degrees a day or two then back down to low 50’s with temps in the 30’s at night…I was curious with this revolving weather during the pre spawn where you guys typically find crappie? I can’t seem to catch anything but some small bass from the bank. I’ve tried back in creek arms with standing timber and under bridges where it drops off quickly and there just not there.

I basically have the same weather. Today I caught fish at 12 feet and at 7 feet, both within 20 yards of each other. This next weather pattern coming will stabilize and the fish will be heading towards shore. Last month I caught fish shallow but they weren’t there to spawn just the usual ice out feeding binge. That’s what your bass are doing. I don’t pay attention to the surface temps until it hits the 50 degree mark. The surface maybe be 50 but down 4-5 feet the water is in the 40’s. 50 degrees for a couple weeks and you won’t be able to keep the fish off the line.

Thanks for the reply…you mentioned 12’ and 7’ you were catching them, in how deep of water though? I usually don’t start fishing until about 5pm to about 8pm after I get off work. Maybe if I go early morning I would have more success. All I know is I can’t wait until spring is in full swing lol.
