    Default Best crappie vacation destination?

I live in Indiana, where small crappie are plentiful, but slabs have been hard to come by for years now. I am looking at taking my pops on a crappie fishing vacation. If we wanted our best chances of catching monster slabs where and when should we go? I'd be willing to go as far as East Texas or anywhere east of the Mississippi. Needs to be boatable public lakes not limited in boat size or horsepower.

I would spend a couple of days on Lake of the Pines and a couple of days on Lake Fork. Both are in East Texas and there is is good chance you will catch your PB.

Better be going soon if your going to Texas.
Might also consider one of the big 4 in Mississippi.
Keep us posted on your decision.
Also could help if you check some of the State forums here on CDC.
    Good luck with your Pops!!

I should have mentioned that I am in no rush. we have a 2 week Wisconsin trip coming up in a couple of months. This trip will most likely be this fall or next spring. I just want to get a VRBO reserved relatively soon.

My pops like to bobber fish with minnows. I prefer to cast or dangle jigs with soft plastics. neither of us really enjoys trolling much. I do prefer fishing structure as opposed to searching for beds on flats. I have struggled with that type of fishing my last 3 trips to KY lake.

Texas , we don't troll here and have lots of standing timber , fork needs to be top priority in the next weel or 2 ....

As mentioned, Mid March to mid April.
Fork, Lake of the Pines , Millwood in SW Ark. Toledo bend.
In Mississippi, any of the “ big 4” lakes will produce the big fish you seek.
