We used to fish that way, especially at Santee Cooper, for bass and crappie. 16 to 20' fiberglass rod with about 18" of 30# test line hanging off the end of the pole. We called it "Jiggering". It was really exciting to have a bass explode on a buzzbait on that rig.

My dad got his biggest bass that way. It's kind of a "lost art" these days, but it still works.

it truly is a "lost art" , have not seen a soul in many years do it and even though I have few "just a 10 ft. rod" here and there , it still don't get done by me these days .
it is much like stalking with a bow and arrow , you sneak in really slowly and try not to spook the fish .
it can be addicting and in some cases it is way past hilarious , if a fish over 2 lbs or so hits the jig with that short of a line off the tip it becomes instantly on like DONKEY KONG !
