Cheap braid is definitely worse. Try to make more delicate casts and maybe side cast if that works for you. Every time I try to cast it a mile, the knots suddenly appear.
Is there a secret to not getting wind knots in braid or is it a brand or size thing? Thanks,Don

Lite lure weights and trying to cast really long distances can cause problems, especially if you "wrist snap cast". I'm with Happycaster on this one ... side arm cast if you can, or at least make your overhead casts a "smooth motion" deal. Also watch for line twist & take the appropriate measures to get those twists out. Plus, make sure your braid is going on the reel spool kinda tight. Loose loops of line around the spool will also cause you problems if not alleviated in short order.

Not really, some braids are better than others. I found broken in powerpro to be the worst, with sufix 832 and spiderwire stealth to be the best at preventing wind knots.
Could also be the reel, I once had a shimano symetre about 10 years ago that would wind knot like crazy. I spooled it 3 or 4 times before I realized its the reel that is causing it. It only happened on windy days casting small jigs a long ways for white bass, so of course I figured wind knots.. but as soon as I switched to a sedona and used the exact same braid, the knots suddenly stopped.
Reels can cause this issue. An overfilled reel especially. Maybe take a little of the line off and see how that goes.
Maybe they will bite this one……
I have found that keeping braid tight on the spool causes the most knots I get. If I look down and see the spool looks loose and sloppy looking I play out the line until it is back to the tightly wrapped part. Wind the lind back onto the spool under tension and all is good. Wind knots or knots in general are all but eliminated

It almost sounds like the concensus is the best way is not to use it That said, some good suggestions above.

No Secrets, it’s a learning process. There are many variables to keep from getting wind knots, even the professionals still get wind knots time to time.
While surf fishing in Mexico, we only used topwater lures 2 oz. To 4 oz. We fished braid in order to get the distance beyond the breakers, sometimes exceeding 100 yards. Believe me I’ve had bad experiences with braid, after doing research I learned many tips and ended up really liking it.
Try Google for prevention of wind knots.
Good luck
