When I was younger I would clean crappie and give them to my older neighbors. Now I don't even clean my own as I have a nice young neighbor who will clean them for me. He even makes crappie tacos for me.

I don't leave fish in anybody's basket but there are a few people on my dock that I will give fish if I see them when I come in. I know they take them home and eat them as they take everything they catch home the day they catch them.

I will also give fish to families I see fishing on the lake, especially if I see they are not having much luck in catching them.

I'm not sure it is legal to give the fish you catch to other people but as long as I am sure the fish are being eaten I will continue to do so.

Interesting article on this subject here but I still not sure if if is legal to give them away.

it is pushing it to have a community fish holding spot , ice chest , fish basket , etc .
saw a game warden tell some fellas they couldn't do that a few years ago myself .
told them they had to keep them in separate holding devices for each angler .
he let it slide after that but also mentioned he better not come back and find it happening again .

I don't put fish in baskets when no one around no matter what anyone says. but will call friends who love crappie at my cabin and say have crappie in bucket on my porch and they can come around. havn't ever had anyone who said they were coming not come so it's worked for me and then I don't have to clean them.

It is good to have reliable friends. When I clean out the chicken coops and pile it up to compost before I move it to the garden. Everybody needs some of that manure. I started telling them I will call you the next time it needs cleaned out and I will help you load as much as you would like. No takers. It boggles the mind

I would never keep more than my limit, regardless of what I did with them.

I seldom keep more than 12 crappie that I give away. That is more than enough for a good meal.

If a good friend requested I give more for a special occasion I would do it, assuming of course, that I could even catch my limit of keepers that day.

Amazing, isn't it. Every year I have people ask me if I would bring them some crappie but when I tell them they must clean them they don't want them.
