Sometimes it is relaxing to let the minnows do the work. I have spent a many a night letting them work their magic
These late summer crappie are often very difficult to get to commit to a bite on a jig.
There ain't no shame in using minnows to get one to bite .
The tourney folks and guides here do it this time of year frequently .
Of course it isn't my thing , but to be sure it will pretty much ensure fish in the livewell .
Desperate times call for desperate measures .
So in an effort to make a bad day good , keep a few frisky minnows close and lively and your trip might end much better than a no minnow trip .
Heck in some spots like Texoma and Fork some folks tip a jig with TWO minnows at a time !
so ....
Tip of the week , tip your jig with the real thing so your tailgate looks right when you get back to the boat ramp ....![]()

I've actually never fished with minnows. Bought some for the clash last year when teamed up with Pete but I never really used them. Brought them home and have them in my aquarium...lol.
My wife would only use minnows while I used jigs. She always caught 3-4 to my one. She would tell me to quit playing and put a minnow on, that fish ate meat, not metal.I do miss her fishing with me.
It is getting that time of year. I need to get the minnow tank ready for when the weather gets cool enough to stock a couple of pounds.

I can honestly say I haven't fished with live bait of any kind in over 2 1/2 yrs....

I ain't ashamed. Sometimes they are just another trick in the box of tricks. Especially when a meal is on the agenda.
