Those are certainly not new, my dad told me stories of testing this out in the early 50's. The method was introduced about the same time as the "telephone crank method" was popular.
Both methods were extremely productive, if used correctly. As it is today, with many new products that produce well, finding the right location to use, and more importantly, you must target the species that you are trying to "catch". "Shock", and "blast" as they were named shortly after introduction will catch multi species.
Several states have written laws to try and control their use, yes, they are that good, much like today's newest product, "Slab sauce". Fortunately for us crappie anglers, Slab sauce payed their dues upfront, and legislation is not expected. My guess is that lobbyists were used.
You are fortunate to find "blast", must have been discovered at the estate sale of a retired fishing guide.
Be sure to check your electronics carefully before using, a police scanner might even be helpful.
I’d suggest 1/4 or 1/2 sticks. LOL

So the game warden decides to go out with a local friend who seems to ketch lots and lots of fish
He suspects he might be doing something illegal to ketch so many fish
As they hit the lake the boat comes to a stop and the game wardens bud gets out a tackle box
The man produces a stick of dynamite and lights it !
The warden says hey bud that’s against the law !
His bud hands it to him as it burns and says yeah i know ......
And then says ....so you gunna fish or not ?
sum kawl me tha outlaw ketchn whales
All good fun!

You mean it's not legal ? Since when? I gotta try to keep up with these regs better.
Grampa used to sack up a half toe- sack with green black walnuts . Crush them with the tractor ,running over them multiple times . Drag them behind the boat in sloughs and the fish with scales would float to the top . He would dip as many as needed and rest would go back down in a few minutes . Every time we would go bass fishing and got no bite my older brother would say poppa done been here lets go somewhere else .
