I would think this would be best done with 2 people for sure. Hard enough for 1person watching rods up front let along some out the back also. But I bet someone has done it. The new trolling motors with GPS would also be a big help I would think.

I don't really spider rig, but I do long line from the front of the boat. Three or four poles per side. Often the front pole on each side I rig to push rather than pull. It works pretty good.

Yeah I was thinking with at least two people in the boat.....one up front spider rigging and one in the back trolling....

We do it with 1 oz weights on the front poles this allows us to troll .8 mph and longline out the back with jigs it’s a pretty good system when your looking to cover a lot of water and depths, the 1 oz weights up front on the spider rig are the key to keeping the line vertical while moving that fast

I saw a guy doing it on Washington the other day by himself. It looked like had had 8 poles on the front and 4-6 on the back. The fish weren't biting that day so he had about what I had, but I can see where it might help on a good day. He didn't seem to be watching the back poles very close.

I don't think you can "Spider Rig" and "Longline" at the same time. The necessary speed to longline troll is greater than what most "Spider Riggers" go, otherwise your jig on the longline rods would simply be basically hanging off the back of the boat. Now, that being said ... it is quite possible to "Push" jigs off the front & longline off the back, because your speed is generally higher than the normal Spider Rigging speed when Pushing, so the jigs on the longline rods would trail much farther back.

I'm basing that on my own interpretation, that others may differ with. But, when I think of Spider Rigging, I think of speeds from 0.0mph to 0.3mph .... and Pushing/Pulling or longline trolling I think of speeds from 0.5mph to 2mph.

I push jigs with 1.5oz weights @ 0.8mph - 1mph .... and my lines are running at an angle greater than 45deg, and my jigs are well behind the boat. Speed reading is from the GPS system on my depth finder. No disrespect intended, but I really don't see how your lines could be "vertical" on your front rods at 0.8mph ...

i run my front rods at depths of 1-4 feet so there is hardly any line out and with my slimline one oz weights @.8 the angle is not quite vertical but very close, I run the front rods as my shallow rods so I’m picking up fish before the boat spooks them, many people are surprised by the number of fish I catch that shallow because they never seen on the graph because the boat is running them over and spooking them before the transducer marks them
