With a jig or without, I like to put the nibbles on before I hook the minnow. Not only does it look like the minnow is feeding on the nibble, but the minnow keeps the nibbles on the hook. When I fish without minnows, I lay some nibbles out to dry so it will stay on the hook better.

As long that I'm on the topic of artifical bait I have another question. What do you guys think on the berkley worms and mini-worms? They look like a longer lasting alternitive to regular worms. If I try them would a spray scent help?

Thanks for the posts so far

    Team Ramrod,

If it says "Gulp" on the bottle, it's already scented and biodegradeable....All Berkley's "baits in a bottle" are already scented....The nibbles has a "shrimp" smell to me....Can anybody "identify" the nibble smell???But like you, I spray a little "Yum" crawfish or shad in my Bait Pump just to give em "my touch"....It would probably be better left alone....DemoMan

Casting with them can be a problem. This is where the Bait Pump comes in handy. It injects the nibbles into the hollow body tubes, allowing for longer use time .... and less "waste".
Otherwise, using them externally on a hook or jig, you want to allow them to dry out a little, first (before putting them on a hook) ... since, coming straight out of the bottle, they're a little soft, and fish can knock them off the hook and/or your rod movements can. You may even want to put them on the hook/jig, and allow them to dry ... meanwhile, using another outfit.

None of this info is from my personal experience ... just what I've picked up, here on the site. .......... cp

I tip a jig with a nibble or a minnow. I have never tipped with both. Just one or the other. (although some of my customers have tipped with both and caught fish) Most of the time, we catch more fish with the jigs tipped with nibbles than we do with them tipped with minnows. Never go to the lake with out them.

For the "do-it- your selvers"... I put the nibbles in an injector from Wally World.. A little warm water makes them paste and then like the bait pump..., fill the tube. I have added liquid with them but can not tell the diff in bite.

No problem CP. I probably should be using them like that. But then I would never know which one the fish are more happy with. The nibbles or the minnows. LOL I always fish half of my poles with jigs tipped with nibbles and the other half tipping the jigs with minnows. And most of the time, I catch more fish tipped with nibbles. Any one that has ever been fishing with me, will tell you the same thing.

I think I remember someone saying that they put them in the oven for a while and this helps them stay on the hook better. (May have been Old Guide) Never tried it but may have to.

Sometimes they make a difference sometimes they don't. My partner refuses to use them and catches more fish than anyone. I always have some in the boat. I had one on when that 3# Male bit saturday!
