I work for a large power company.
We have seen it several times
LEDs will not damage a garage door opener - BUT - they may interfere with the operation. Some power supplies for the LEDs (LEDs are 12 volt DC and you need a power converter or supply to change the 115 volt AC of the house to the required DC voltage) are electrically noisy. That is: They put out a broadband RF noise. If it is strong enough it may overpower the receiver in the opener so it may not "hear" the signal from your remote in your car.
Being a ham radio operator this has come up as LED lights have become more popular and some interfere with any receiver such as hams use. I have been slowly converting my whole home to LEDs and with each batch that I buy I test them by turning them on and listening to my radios one at a time. So far all I have bought and installed have been quiet, but other hams in my community have not been so lucky.
