That is exactly what I do and have never had a problem. I love the way it casts!!!

I believe I posted previously about having trouble with Nanofil. Specifically with break offs. Of course, I was using the 2# test rating. I also liked how it cast, but lost way too many jigs and fish. Tried the Nano-knot as well as otheres. Tried various leaders of flurocarbon and monofilament as well. With the leaders, the break would occur at the Alberto knot (which is about as dependable a knot as there is).

Now I use 2# test Fireline Crystal and have never had a problem with it. I use a 3' section of 2# flurocarbon for a leader. Didn't get broken off at all last season. And Fireline casts just as well as Nanofil at less cost. JMO!

Trying to learn from this post my self.Never have understood a smaller dia leader of the main line.I know to keep from breaking off the main line.We Fish a clear deep water lake.Feel the leader would spook fish (knot, swivel ect) hang on brush? Have enjoyed learning from this thread thanks. Why else would you use a smaller say 4 lb test mono with 15 lb braid? Thanks

Nanofil is a superline, not like mono, fluoro, or copolymers...As a fused superline, it has no stretch, is sensitive, etc, but, it's main strength is it's casting ability, due to less resistance. Also, since it has long fibers that are just fused together instead of bundles of long fibers that are braided, the lines strength is at the knot or abraided area. A true braid is normally stronger than it's rating especially at the knot.
You have to use a Superline Knot because the line is so slick due to it's chacteristics...at least Berkley recommends this...some people choose to do it their own way and for some it works...but it is not Berkey's fault.
IMHO, the line had a place in your tackle box, up until 2 years ago, when all the newer 8 strand braids came out...they are even smaller, rounder, stronger, etc, etc, etc, and cast just as well, on all the reels that I own...The nanofil went in the trash!

I'm talking about fluorocarbon as a better leader material over mono or straight braid. Reasons are that fluorocarbon has a much greater abrasion resistance and is relatively less visible underwater than either monofilament or braid. Straight braid (any brand) has very little abrasion resistance, hence the preferred use of a leader. Fluoro addresses both problems quite well. Even a mono leader is better than straight braid in my opinion.

Tried the 2lb test for casting micro jigs. Took me awhile to learn not to set the hook at all or it breaks. Casts good and bet it would work fine with a noodle rod, but I won't be using it anymore. Just not forgiving enough for me to use in general. I don't blame Berkeley, just not the right line for any of my needs.
