it's very rude to use one in a restaurant. if I get a call while in one I just say i'm eating hang up. I will not disturb other people while they are eating.

When I take my brother and his friends out fishing on my boat, their cell phones are always ringing with people calling them or texting them. The calls and texts are usually about nothing and really annoy me when I'm trying to appreciate nature. I finally made it a rule on my boat to turn off the ringers and no calls unless it's really important.
