Bummer jimmy, please let us know how long it takes to get it fixed and how customer service is. Im still contemplating getting one of these motors
Jimmy hate to hear that bud! Man I hope I don't have any problems...my Xi5 is installed and plan to fish a few days this week with a tourney coming up this weekend...plan on putting it through its paces. I'll report back for certain.
It's just about being out there, doing what you enjoy.

Well Motorguide sent me an e-mail about it, I'm supposed to call them in the morning. I'd say customer service is going to be pretty good if they got a hold of me on Sunday at 7pm .....before I got a chance to call them
Interested in how it performs. Going to upgrade soon and looking at it and the ipilot.
Hope you guys get it resolved quickly and hassle free. I'll be purchasing one for my tin boat which has 24" sides. Which length do you think I should get. The 48" or 54"?
I have a 17.5 foot sea nymph aluminum bass boat and the short shaft is plenty long for mine.
O.K. just a heads up for those that have bought this motor. I talked to motorguide today and apparently I'm not the only one to have issues like this with the GPS. It says somewhere in the manual that you are supposed to unhook the motor when not in use, and apparently this is important. He said although the switch in the motor turns off all power to make the motors functions work, there is still power to the circuit board when it is plugged in and this can cause problems when charging or even going down the road. So to me, the reliability of this motor is now questionable if you have to unplug it or have a switch to turn it off anytime you aren't directly using it. But anyway they were very good and said they will send the parts to my service center and fix it, or put on a new motor if necessary. But I don't like the idea of the electronics being so sensitive that they have to be disconnected any time that I am not directly using the motor. I've never heard of this before. I guess I'll put a switch or breaker switch inline so I can cut power to it anytime it's not being used. And I would strongly suggest you all do the same, or use a plug in, because all power needs to be cut to these motors when not in use to keep from frying the circuit board.
MinnKota Powerdrive I-pilot needs to be disconnected from power also. No chance of frying a board, but it will drain the battery over time. Hope Ya get fixed up soon!
Cray LIKED above post
I suspect what is happening is power is staying on to the GPS circuit and when it is stored the GPS is steady searching for satellites it can't find, overheating the circuit board.
