find what you like and happy with. i was really happy with a light rod with fast action for verticle jigging. tried a skeet reese signature series that was light action.only 6ft10" but it feels great and is about 100.00. my wife had a custom rod made for me that is absolutly great. even identicle rod blanks can fill different. When you find a rod you like, go try on different weights to get it ballance out with the reel. the reel doesnt need to be high dollar for verticle jigging, but nice enough when you do get into that walleye or something else. Find your length you like and work from there.

    Good Luck.

my custom build rod was $200.00 8FT3

So come to find out after looking thru my rods I have a 11' & 12' BGJP. I will get a reel and try these out. I was looking for a rod that was about 8-10' long. This will give me a good start.

They will be a little nose heavy but a good place to start. The extra reach might help you now and then, but i find that they get in the way in tight quarters like in boat docks and such.

First of all you need to tell us what kind and depth of structure you are going to be fishing. Structure that shallow and comes out of water needs a longer rod but BP that top are 6 ft deep and stain water only need a 5&1/2 or so rod. That is all I use ,have 8,9,10,11,12 but I can feel and do better with my 5$1/2 casting rod. If run TM on slow and do not bang bottom it will not bother them until you catch many, they just might get tighter in brush which at times is better for they will be tighter. I have caught many of thousand that way

I only veritcal jig in the winter and use a 10' BGJP and a 9' Sam Heaton Super sensitive, both from BnM rods. I use Berkley Fireline brain with a fluro leader and the feel of both rods is amazing. I would agree about the extra length of the 10' and up rods getting in the way more than they help but that extra 2' has helped me reach that "perfect spot" a couple times
