Crappie (there is no such fish as a "croppy'') can be caught using different methods all year. Yet they are tricky here today in great numbers the next day, gone. It is the pursuit and scheming that is fun. When I leave home my plan is foolproof, on the water the fish usually show the flaws I had not forseen. Yet I continue .Crappie fisherman are born not made.

Ever since I was a kid, I've fished to relax. Nothing like time on the water to make all the cares of the day melt away. It doesn't matter much to me what species of fish I'm after, I find that fishing relaxes me. I specifically target crappie for the frying pan. They provide some interesting challenges, adding the fun of figuring out where they are and what they want on any given day to the relaxation I get from fishing.

So I guess, since all fishing relaxes me, the reason for targeting crappie is because they taste so darn good and they provide a bit more of a challenge than bass.

P.S. I also fish for walleye for the same reasons.

There seems to be a prevailing theme here of the reformed bass fisherman who was shown the error of his ways by this tasty and sometimes elusive critter. I too suffered from the terrible greencarpitis. That is, before i began the pursuit of this awesome fish! Proud to say i havent been bass fishing in over a year! I still relapse from time to time but i have gotten much better!

I just love the hunt and figuring out what they want each time out. Some times they are easy to figure out and other times it will take almost all day to figure out what they want. It is a slower pace fishing and just very relaxing to sit and enjoy your surrounding around you. The grandkids love Crappie fishing which they can do by themselves. I still have to take the hooks out of the fish but they do the rest on their own. Kids are very inquisitive and love to experiment with all kinds of things. EB

I like to fish for crappies because they will bite a artificial bait and I like the challenge of fishing artifices. I also make all my own artificials and enjoy the since of accomplishment of catching fish on home made lures.
