Used two diff types 8# braided last year and did well. Using an albright knot I tie on about four feet of 6# flourocarbon for leader. On the end of the flouro I tie on a fast snap or interlock snap (BP). The fast snap allows me quick changes in jigs. If I get snagged and have to break off, the break occurs in the flouro and typically leaves me enough leader to quickly tie on another fast snap. Seems to work ok and I did not see a decline in number of fish caught. One thing I did notice about the braided is that there is some break-in time for the line. It is stiff to begin with, but once you use it awhile it really loosens up.

Just a note, if your fishing braided line on catfish or any fish with any sort of small teeth, use a steel leader, as you battle with the fish with a hook tied directly on the braid line it will destroy fast as the teeth or sharp mouth of the fish un-yarns and cuts the braid! tough line for everything but a fish mouth!

It hasn't been around for a few months unless you had some special source. Are you sure your using the Super8Slick? Anyways, I'm using the 15 lb s8s and I like it a lot better than the regular PP. It's quieter and keeps its color through lots of hard use. Good line though it is expensive. I like the color selection as well.

Weird that you had a break in time. What lines are you using?

I've been converted to hi vis braid and for easy tying and trimming knots I add a 6' piece of 12lb fluoro. The braid I use isn't real small like the new ones, and when I find some of the 6 or 8lb with the tiny diameter, I'll change out and lose the fluoro. Love the stuff for vertical jigging!

i have good luck with 10 lb vicious braid, keep it sprayed with kvd line and lure helps keep it relaxed so not to have all the not problems.

I fish the tree tops about 80 percent of the time and fireline Hvis yellow 6 lb 2# dia. does the job. No break offs

It's generally regarded as the best braided line, but it's also the most expensive. I don't use it, but have talked to many that do. The general consensus that I have run across is that the 30lb is super thin and awesome for salt, but the thinner lines can break easier than they should. 15lb costs $45 for 150 yards. That's 30 cents a yard.
