Very well said Smitty. The only thing I will add to it is about those who don't have any one to fish with for any of the reasons you say, that don't have crappie.com or other avenue to follow what they love. You see these folks at the ramp, or the tackle shop, or boat repair place. God made us to take care of one another, and this is one way we can stand up and do what's needed without being asked, or seeking recognition after. Fill that empty seat in your boat, or take your catch to them, or get the guy at the ramp to talk with you a few minutes and send him home with some of your fish. Bring some to a neighbor and spend a minute talking fishing with them while you filet the catch that they will have for dinner. We will go again in a while, and they will never forget this. We are Blessed in a very special way, and I thank God for every moment I get to go. I see my mobility changing as I age, and realize that my days are numbered. Thanks for starting this post Smitty, it brings up some very good points.

Great post Smitty. Had never really looked at things like that, but you are 100% right and it made me see the error of my ways. Being in the military for over 30 years and moving around every few years, I never really developed that "band of brothers" group of fishing buddies. Mostly just me and the 300 lbs Hillbilly, But all my kids fish and they are teaching their children to fish also. Special treat is for me to take the grandkids fishing when they visit.

Good thread. I'm only 45, but do business with 680+ seniors... things change over night for some.

Spending time outdoors, with company or alone... it is special.

That's why me and my Best Half take the 15, 12 and 8 year old grandgirls with us every chance we get. They love it and the look on their face when they pull one in and get one up on grandpa makes it worth it. And the conversations we have are priceless. I know the day is coming and when it does, they'll have some good memories to look back on. Gotta go. Got something in my eye.

Wow, this post really makes a guy sit back a think. My dad lives 500+ miles north of me, we don't get to see each other more than a couple of times a year but the past few springs he has got to come down and spend about a week with me jiggin crappie. It means the world to both of us, which is evident in the tear filled eyes when he heads back home. This year the trip probably just can't happen, I've got a construction project that just started up and I won't be able to take off. I'm hoping we can possibly swing a short trip that includes a weekend but no guarantees. I know there isn't going to be that many more years left for us to do this, so I'm really hoping it can somehow come together...even though last spring was great and we caught a slug of crappie together, I don't want it to be the last one...
