Well, I guess the weight really doesn't matter but I'm more of the person that shoot the docks for crappie..An last spring I took a guided trip with my in-laws to Weiss lake an the guide was telling us the only way to go for trolling is 1/28 jigs..He told us everything about trolling but sadly I didn't think to take a real mental note on everything an the only thing I can remember was the weight on the jigs..

Well, Specialist ... if I were a longline troller, I think 10lb test would be about as big as I'd go. Color is up to you and your preference, water clarity of the lakes you intend to fish, and what brand & type of line you choose. The answers you got, and will probably still get, will reflect what the preference of the member is ... and they're going to be all over the chart ROFL

If you're wanting a 1/24oz ballhead, which is right between a 1/32 & 1/16oz ... look no further than right here in your state. Grousefly can pour you a 1/24oz ballhead jighead with several different size hooks, and even different color hooks.

Grousefly is a member here, and owner/operator of P&S Custom Tackle in Vicco, Ky. His name is Paul Mullins, and you can reach him by :

    PM to - "Grousefly"
    Email - [email protected]
    Phone - 606 642 3167

Tell him you're a member and get a discount on your order.

He makes the jigheads I use, and those are mostly 1/32 & 1/16oz ballheads with a #2 hook. There wouldn't be any problems for him to make a 1/24oz with a #2 hook, or even a #4 hook. Contact him & talk with him about what you're looking for & how you intend to use them ... he'll fix you up.

I think a lot of Weiss guides use the Jiffy Jigs (or knockoffs) for trolling & Dock Shooting ... and they're 1/24oz.

I shoot docks on Weiss & Watts Bar ... and use the 1/32 & 1/16oz jigheads (weedless) that Grousefly makes for me. A 1/24oz jighead is just a median weight between the two, and I have seen a guide use a 1/64oz jighead to shoot docks ... so it's all in how fast a fall rate you need (and only the Crappie can tell you that Rofl ).
4lb - 6lb test mono is normal for dock shooting (I mostly use 4lb test) ... and hi-vis line can help you see the lightest bites, even if you have less than perfect eyesight.
Braid is fine for these methods, too ... so 8/1 or 10/2 braid will work well with spinning tackle & the lighter jigheads. I'm using 10/2 PowerPro hi-vis braid on my "1/16oz Roadrunner" casting outfit (7' Bionic Blade / Shimano Spirex 2000) so it shouldn't be any problem for your Pfleuger.

I have 2 guides that buy 1/64 and 1/24 from me to shoot docks. And 2 sorta campground tackle shops that buy the 1/24oz heads by the 1000's on weiss lake.

Down here in Ga. most everyone I've talked with use 6 or 8# mono line in hi-vis for longlining. The hi-vis helps me with seeing the lines out the back of the boat when another line has to be casted back into position and is also easier watching the line with the fish on it trying to keep it from tangling other lines when reel in the fish. IMO clear or hi vis doesnt matter to the fish as they'll bite both. I only use 1/16th jigs and 1/32nd jigs for longlining. From watching the graph and finding where the fish are suspending you can get jigs in the fishes faces by casting short lines, adding splitshots, etc. to get the depths of your jigs where you wnt 'em. Some of the members onboard also make what they call light wire hooks on their jigs too. It may cost you a big striper using those wire hooks but it certainly help to avoid some of the break offs when you snag something on bottom when trolling by being able to pull the hooks straight. I've never shot docks so all I can tell ya is I've read where some will go as light as a 1/64th jighead all the way up to a 1/16th and theyre reporting some nice catches.

Yea I really like the hi vis line that Jeff used so I really will probably stick with a hi vis line..We was burning them up with it so I'm pretty sure the fish didn't care..I got close to 300 bucks worth of southern pro hot grubs..We used those long lining..Didn't know which ones to buy besides the ones we used so I bought 50 of each one of them..Any suggestion of any other ones that do good in Weiss an guntersville James?
