I like the ESP Series but that has been beat to death all over the forum so you can read all the info on it..but I am really interested in the St. Croix pan-fish rods. I am trying to find but don't think they are on the market yet.

I hope that was not a derogatory remark directed at me....but it seems so. There is not much made in the USA anymore...it is a shame but it is not my fault. You will find 99 percent of your Crappie Rod components are made off-shore. If they were not no one could afford that 25$ BnM rod. I know Phenix blanks are made in the USA but have you ever priced a Phenix Rod?? They are not as much as the Loomis yet the whole rod is made in USA except for the guides....Loomis is not. This issue gets beat to death. I will buy something that is made in the USA when it is something I want...need and use. We have a lady here who owns a sporting good store...not much inventory. She will not shop in Walmart...but she shops in Kroger...duh...it is still a huge chain of groceries stores. I shop at REI quite a bit and everyone that comes in there wants made in the USA. REI is a first class store and carries USA made gear when they can find it. But when someone looks at the pair of North Face boots and sees the price...and not all North Face boots are made in the USA...they go bonkers over the price. So I will buy USA when I can find it in a product I am looking for and just because it says made in USA that does not mean it is a quality product. So I will buy what I want, when I want no matter where it is made. I spent 7 years in the US Army and 21 years...outside of the USA.....in the Air Defense field protecting American interest. Go through your house and throw out everything that was not made in the USA and then give me a call and lets see how much stuff is left in your house.

I am new to this forum as a member and hope to contribute as well as learn from all of you.
I am about to order the blank (9', 2 piece, 5 wt.) fly rod to build a crappie rod for a client. I am planning on a 20 1/2'' cork handle with the real seat 11'' from the butt and 5'' of front grip.
There will be one bit of warning to the user; they net their catch rather than lifting it with the rod.
I am going to dress it up a bit but not to take awy from it's functionality.
    What do you think?

Sounds good to me. We all should net our fish as Crappie tend to get away very easily lifting with the rod. I net all Crappie. But...and I guess this would depend on what rod you are fishing with. It is just not a good idea to lift fish with the rod. I even net Bluegill using my Power Lite Rod and my Ultra Light. I catch a lot of Bluegill in the pound range and I know those rods are not designed to do that with. The handle sounds good but I would assume the client wanted the handle built to his specs. I have been wanting one made for Crappie and to use also as a float rod for Trout.

Actually the client is the Mother of the recpient, her son Scott. Acording to her he does quit abit of Crappie fishie in OK. The handle is my idea. I thought it might be easier with a spin caster. I am going to end it with a rubberized cork butt cap. Does that mean they rubbed a Cork tree with a little rubber when it was a sapling?
When I build a rod if I don't sell it I sometimes give them away. I have drawers of reels so my epitaph will read, "HE DIED REEL RICH BUT ROD POOR.
There is an idea for a Thread..Fisherman's Epitaph.

    Go easy.
