walmart by my house just had the ez checker on sale for half price, I got 2 of them. When I just went out to check it it was measuring 1/16 of an inch short. Guess thats what I get for shopping there. lol
I arrived at Grenada on April 2 and found the same thing. The frabil is accurate for 10" fish because their mouth will reach the bottom of the unit, but a 12" fish from Grenada the mouth will reach the bottom but it want be closed, eggs or no eggs. I marked my paddle and used it after I figured that out. As of now in Arkansas the minimum is 10" so it works well but they need to fix the problem for measuring crappie.

The Fish Taco - The BEST fish measuring device ever!
I've not heard much about these lately but I know they were popular for a while.

I didn't get a ticket, but I through mine away last year! I use the golden ruler now.
I got checked last monday and the the first thing the agent asked is what we used to measure fish. I handed him my frabil ez checker and that is what he used to check a few of our fish. He said he always uses what the fisherman says he measured fish with as long as it appears to be a legitimate ruler or frabil type. Makes sense as that way folks have no excuse when he finds a short one with their equipment.
Fish like your hungry!
I use the golden ruler because it gives a better measurement.
The Grip n Check works pretty good.
I keep the GOLDEN RULE in my boat, but I do also have an EZ-checker for quick checks, but if close I don't use it. I think some of the black crappie when really healthy are pretty fat or thick from bottom to top also from side to side and may hinder them getting all the way in.

That has been a well talked about and known problem around Grenada and Sardis I fish tourneys down there and those fish have shoulders that wont let them fit all the way down into the checker. You have to cut the sides with a Roto Zip about 3 inches on each side then the fish will fit all the way down mouth closed. I was stopped a couple weeks ago at the ramp by the GW and when he seen my checker he wanted to see my fish, he checked the fish and stated that I must have gotten the "new" checker that was wider and I told him I just cut the sides out of mine so the fish would fit all the way down. I don't know if they are comming out with a new one or not but anyway, sorry to hear about your ticket really sucks when your making an honest mistake.
