Depends on how deep I'm fishing and how light the fish are biting. I prefer spring floats for depths less than 6 feet. When you pull on a spring float, the jig rises a lot less than it does when you pull on a slip float. Past that, it's a slip float. I prefer the ones with the metal rings around the top, so they don't get a groove worn in them. If the fish are biting really light, I'll put on a waggler.
    Don't worry, catch crappie.

Default Crappie Flag Rod Tip Bobber

I love to free line a touffy minnow, with a # 2 crappie hook. The small hook lets the minnow sink slow and gives it more life like action. Six lb. test line and a spinning reel, also I like to use a small split shot, cast the minnow out and reel it back slowly and watch the crappie flag, when you see a strike stop and let the fish pull the flag down 3 to 5 inches then set the hook. With a jig as soon as you see a strike set the hook. With a small split shot under the right conditions I have fished about 30 ft deep, drift fishing. I usually use thill slip bobbers with eagle claw rubber bobber stops. Sometimes if the crappie are shy, i'll use a small unpainted round cork bobber. I slim it down with a fillet knife to make it more sensitive. Some days the crappie will only want to bite a hook under that instead of a whitebottomed bobber. Could be the natural color is more camoflaged in muddy water under certain conditions, but I don't know.

This thread reminds me of a bobber me and my father used back in the 70's. We called it a torpedo bobber. The top half was white with red stripes around it, the bottom was green, and there was a clip around the middle and bottom. With a lite split shot it would lay flat on the water and the slightest bite would make it stand up. I used to love watching that white tip disappear under the water. I have not seen one in years, but it was my favorite.
