I use to only shoot at dock's bass fishing until one day I caught a 18 1/4in
crappie on a bass jig under a pontoon boat. I staterd trying this method on crappie and it truely work's. I use a 7'' 3 carrot stix med heavy rod on 4# line.
some say that rod is not a good crappie rod. It's not but for this technique
it work's great for me because if the fish aren't very aggresive and bearly hit the bait I can still fill it. My lake only has floating docks to so try them out.

All of the water that I fish have floating docks, that rise and fall with the water level, do these docks produce crappie? Its seems like there only couple feet off the water, so I would have to get pretty accurate to fish under them. Also, is shooting docks a post spawn method? Thanks for any info!!!!
Shooting floating docks is no different than shooting stationary docks ... just a little more difficult. Principal is still the same ... you want to get your jig back into the darkest, most shaded portion of water under that dock.

It's a year around method, but does have periods when it's more productive ... as with any type of cover. Crappie hang around docks, because they offer two things .... shade/ambush potential --- and a foodsource (baitfish).

As for Pontoon boats ... think of them as mini-me floating docks :p

Look thru this thread, for my reply to "Tom" .... http://www.crappie.com/crappie/main-...ecnique-2.html ... or this thread ... http://www.crappie.com/crappie/south...-shooting.html and read my repy under "Never did get around to writing that article". Those two posts will give you my best info on the subject.
