Just where is Beau Bayou. I was told its close to Lake Dautrive. Does anyone have any specifics, planning a trip next week? Beaux
My wife and I went to Oak Ridge today. We only kept 11 bream and goggle eye. I spent most of the day bass fishing and caught 4(1 keeper). Friends in another boat caught a 48 quart ice chest full of bull bream and a few nice sacs. My cousin was in his own boat and caught about 40 bull bream in Oak Ridge and about 20 nice sacs in Beau Bayou on homemade hair jigs. Bull bream were mostly caught on crickets. I caught the 4 bass on Horny Toad(watermelon red). Did not notice many people catching sacs. Most were loading up on bull bream.

Beau Bayou is out of Bayou Benoit. I would really suggest going with someone that knows the area. you have to be careful when coming out because you can get turned around real easy.

Thanks for the advice on those areas. I began fishing Henderson and crappie again a little over 2 yrs ago. And, I am just getting to know the area well enough to catch fish on a regular basis using jigs. I have friends that I can follow to BB and I think its a fix. Basinfisher ---if you want to make a trip later post me a message, I need to practice for the south/north tourney.
BEAUX To get to Oakridge the water level needs to be at least 5' and the water is dropping fast right now I don't think too many people will be going that way for now. but the canal you take off the G.A. Cut to get to Beaux bayou and Oakridge is called the Darby and I have done good in this canal when the water is low and the boat traffic in this canal slows down.It very simple to get to this canal if you know your way around the benoit landingOriginally Posted by BeauxBeaux
When you leave the benoit landing go south or to the right of the landing .
right in front of the landing it forms a huge cove but as you go south it bottle necks into a canal keep going south untill you come to a canal on the left I call this the short cut canal take this till you come to a T this is the G.A.Cut
go right or south and stay in this canal looking for first canal on left at least a mile or two down from the short cut this is the Darby and I usuall start fishing structure after passing the large pilings on the right a good ways into the Darby. Only thing to be carfull of is in the short cut canal there is sand bars that come way out from the points on the right towards the left bank and you need to stay to the left side best thing to do is to go slow in this canal also at the T with the G.A. cut there is a huge sand bar coming from left to right at the mouth this is also good fishing if you position your boat in the G.A.Cut and fish the drop off from the sand bar but the current is usually hard to fish it with out anchoring.

for the directions. I think I will do some scouting in that area when it gets too hot to fish. I just found that landing riding the levee rd. and went all the way to Fallsee Pt. from Henderson back to Maurice Thru St Martinville. Benoit is the big area across the levee from the road isn't it. Never fished there yet but the info is going in my little book of secrets. Beaux
sorry i didn't get a chance to post. i was in Texas until today. sacalait steve, the short cut is called Grand Bayou. Be careful in this cut when the water gets below about 5 also because their are 2 sandbars. i dry docked last year when the water was low and it took me 2 hours to get out of there. the water was at 3.7 when that happened. when you go to the end of darby you have to go through the woods. be careful there are lots of stumps. when you get to the opening you hit beau bayou. if you go through beau bayou you hit woods again. after you go through the woods you come out in oak ridge. i am still too chicken to go back there by myself. i always go with friends who are familiar with the area. it is tricky but not that bad when the water is low because when you get into the woods you can see where to go. when the water is high it is confusing. but don't listen to me i am not good at direction. my friends are familiar with all of the area around benoit landing. they have a camp we go to on the GA right before darby. it is the camp that has a big wharf and red handrails. the camp is white with blue and red trim. if anyone is in the area and we are there stop by and say hi. When are you coming in? Sure would like to make that trip and we could go in my boat. I here there is starting to be a lot of pressure there with postings on several sites but would like to learn the area. I may go scouting Monday or Tuesday if I haven't secured a job by then. Been semi-retired since 1998 and am getting bored and the weather is getting sooo hot. My brother went back to China for Global but that's not for me. Been around the world but theres no place like home even though the wages haven't gone up in 30 years while everything else sure has. BeauxOriginally Posted by basinfisher
