    Default Grand Bayou Report 4/22/04

Well after eating salad all week and having to throw away or donate the fish that I caught on Caney to the state biologist, I decided it was time to enjoy a meal. Grand Bayou did as expected and provided once more. I ended up keeping 36 this morning. Fish seemed to have finally gone to the summer holding spots. Caught fish from 16 to 23 feet. Most were caught on minnows tipped with a nibble. I did catch some nice ones slow rolling a Road Runner but they weren't near as interested in it as they were 2 weeks ago. Matter of fact I didn't catch but 3 dinks where I caught 70 on my last trip. Fishing was hampered by a thunderstorm around 10:30 am, so I don't fell too bad about leaving with 36. Here's a pic of the larger ones.

Nice fish Tommy. I must admitt though. That's a fine looking Black Lab at your side Does he retrieve ducks as well as he fishes? :D
I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin' and hook up with them later.

    Thumbs up great fish

    Hey Tommy
Great mess of fish. And a great looking black lab. You mentioned "summer" wholes. You think that these perch are already moving into summer patterns?

Without a doubt on both lakes. These lake are very clear, unlike most lakes in our area and they heat up extremely fast. The subsurface temp day before yesterday where the fish were holding was 71 on Caney. By the way the fish were holding at 12 to 15 foot in 20 to 26 foot of water. The subsurface was 69 degrees on bottom in 18 foot of water. The spawn is over on these 2 lakes guys.

Hey Tommy, you said you either had to throw the fish on Caney or donate them to the state biologist. What is all that about? Is there a mercury concern on Caney? I haven't heard anything about Caney... Just wondering

Have no idea Shadow. It is only relative to the crappie. We are not seeing it in anything but them. However, I have not cleaned ay bass in 3 years so I can't really say about them. All I know is that the fish that we are cleaning after the spawn aren't fit to eat. And they have something that I have never seen going on with them. It is coming in through the peck and dorsal fins. Saw it last year. Some the year before and out of 2 trips and 181 fish brought to the cleaning table, we have been seeing it in most of the ones that we are cleaning. Go to main forum and check out the post about bad fish. I also posted the pics on the brag board to they could be seen in full size.

Hi Sunflower. Welcome to the La Board. Here's the link for Grand Bayou Resort. All you'll need to know is there along with the only ramp and dock open right now on the lake. http://www.grandbayouresort.com/ There are links down at the bottom of the page that show all the features including a map to the lake and location of where the dock is.
