Check the "kill switch".....
I have a 50 hp 2 stroke mercury, I can put the muffs on it & hook hose on them it cranks & runs fine. When I go to the lake & pump the bulb it doesn’t want to start. Any ideas ?
I live in Oklahoma know and where I live a good motor mechanic is hard to find. It might be home sick for La.
Thanks

You would probably get a lot of helpful suggestions if you also posted this in the Mechanics Corner forum.

Sounds like dirty low speed jets (gummed up by old fuel). Back pressure caused by having the exhaust in the water requires a richer mixture. May need a carb rebuild.

Sounds like a fuel mixture problem. If it is too lean it will not start in the water but will on the muffs. May need a good cleaning

Got a fuel pump rebuild kit today. Going to rebuild it first if that doesn’t help rebuilding carbs. I changed the fuel line & bulb went with black fuel hose from Napa. No more E10 for me I cut old fuel line in sections, it was almost stoped up, yes I used fuel additive

How old is it? I had an older model merc that was doing that and found that it had a mercury switch inside the motor cowling. Removed the switch and had no more issues
