    Default Henderson Mounds?

People always tell me to fish the "mounds" for brim. Can someone tell me where the "mounds" are located?

    Thanks.....

Anywhere you find a "man made" canal, they use a barge to dredge it and deposit the dirt along both sides of the canal, this dirt is typically higher than the surrounding water bottom, making it a "hump", "spoil bank" or a "mound"....in due time willow trees and brush will grow on top of the mounds....at times of low water, these mounds are out of the water, but when the water has been very high and covering the mounds then starts dropping, these areas will attract feeding fish to the area, including bass, bream and sacs...and gar....

On a side note, when levees are built, they need dirt to build them up....so, they dig a hole close by and "borrow" the dirt to build the levee...these holes are called "borrow pits" by the engineers.....over time, many folks call them "bar pits" because that is what they thought they heard ....

If you head West in the Texas canal, take a right (North) in the Philips canal then take a right (East) at the second cut you will come upon open water in about 200 yards. Straight ahead there were several timber platforms which were built in the 50's on mounds covered with shell. In those days, after the platforms were removed, we called them "the mounds". In the Spring, when they were about a foot or so below water, they were the home to bedding bream. I had the location of the mounds on my Loran C (no longer operational) and then converted them to Lat/Lon coordinates. No, they are not available lol.

I forgot to mention, one of the platforms had a flare about 20 yards from the platform which made for good fishing at night, if you could stand the mosquitoes.
