in my opinion all the new boats are made just about the same when it comes to aluminum, if im correct they dont use wooden decks anymore in the tracker boats. i will say from what i have noticed recently the "cookie Cutter" boats which are sold by bass pro and cabelas which are the tracker and the ranger aluminum, have a better deck layout and storage then the other ones on the market (ie.. xpress, g3.....) which will give you the best bang for the buck due to them being sold on a massive scale so they pack the most in them for the money. dont get me wrong i do love my xpress, but as far as deck layout im a little disappointed that my H18 is a little lacking on storage in this area. if i had to do it all over again i would go with the new ranger 198' just for the amount of storage and deck layout and the price with basic options you get out the door. in the end its all about what size your looking for and what your comfortable spending.

I have a G3 17' sportsman and I love it. The only disappointment that I have is the seat pedestals are a pain to take out. I have to take a pipe wrench to get them out. Everything else is great. I bought it at cheek's marine in Alexandria. That being said, I also like the Ranger Aluminum . It had evinrude motor on it and I wasn't sure about that. so I went with the G3 with the Yamaha.

Don't forget to check out a Crestliner TC 18 before you finally drop some money on something else.

You can't appreciate G3 quality fully unless you do rigging on it yourself. Engineered with the user in mind.

I have a Tracker Pro 170 bought a year ago. Front deck is treated ply. I think the entire rear deck is aluminum, but not 100% sure. I know the front deck is wood as I had to remove it this weekend to remove the original trolling motor and install a new one. I added two seat mounts on the rear and it was aluminum everywhere I could see.

For a sacalait boat in small water, I would consider a stick steer.......move from spot to spot and never have to get up.

I have a 2004 G3 WE165 with a 60 HP Yamaha, nice smooth riding boat and little slow on the hole shot and if you are a little short legged round man like me coming off the front deck it's a long way down to the floor. I see the newer ones have a step from the front deck to the floor.
