    Default Bundick's Lake report. 5-14-16*

It was a pretty hot day on the water. Temperature that is.. Surface temp was 87 degrees and I thought I would do better in deeper holes but only caught a few small fish, so I went to shallower water and salvaged the day.. The bite was real slow but managed to keep 25 and throw back about 10. Caught most in about 9 ft of water, tight lining bottom bouncing jigs. No color stood out better than the rest, but most were caught on hand tied jigs with a few on plastics. I seems they wanted flashy jigs better.. I made some the other day just to try. They are made with some flashy pipe cleaner looking things from walmart, that are kinda challenging to tie because it has a wire in the middle of it.. I lost the green one soon after catching a fish on it, so i don't know how it would have done the rest of the day.. I caught several on the silver one before losing it, and caught several on the red one and several on the blue one. after losing the first two, i took a pic of the other two to remember what colors they were in case i lost them too...

    Here's the fish.

This is what I used to make them.

and these are the two i had left.

I'm telling you, Mr. Johnny, you really know how to salvage a fishing trip. Very nice mess of fish. The jigs look good also. I have never thought of using something like those things with the wire in them. Nice job.

Good trip and nice jigs. My first jigs were tied with pipe cleaners.

Nice Johnny! And I, like pawpaw gene have always called them pipe cleaners, I guess that isn't politically correct now so they are called fuzzy sticks! lol Dad just asked me Wednesday if you had been fishing Bundicks and I told him that you probably hadn't been b/c your last few trips were slow. Looks like you made the best of that day! Thanks for the pictures.

Thanks Bruce, they chomped on the blue one a little more..lol.. caught a few on it last trip also, so it has a little more wear.. gonna make a few more this week.
Pastor thanks for the jig comment.. The fuzzy sticks caught my attention, so i figured they may catch the fish's attention too.
Thanks PPG, I wasn't sure about them at first, but they hold up well, but i think they will rust before long, after being in the water.
Dwyane, the only reasons i haven't been going is because of the high water one weekend, bad weather one weekend, and a crawfish boil another weekend.. We had a few slow trips, but still managed to get enough for a meal.. You never know when they are gonna bite and can't find out if the boat stays in the shed. Might make another trip next weekend, depending on weather, then shut it down because of the heat, and start heading south for some saltwater creatures.

Shrimp season starts May 23rd I believe! I do think it will be into June some before they start catching them cast netting though. Have never done good before June. You can catch crabs now though.
