I always was under the impression that black water meant less oxygen. Am I wrong?

black water in our basin's is actually very clear water. our bottoms are nothing bud dark mud and debris which in turn makes the water look black. if we had rocky or sandy bottoms it would probably be more of a pretty green or blue!

I always questioned and pretty much ignored the black water thing. Mainly because I noticed the same thing. Black water in Henderson is clear water. lol

The bad black water smells like sewage because of the lack of oxyger. Clear black water is the result of tannin in the water.

The wild card for the clear water thing is how far down is the murk? I've seen the trolling motor bring it up and even sometimes a caught fish will bring a little up. I'm with PPG in that the smell factor is big. Went swimming with family in Lake Arthur the other day and standing in the boat I could see to their waste in 5' of water. After walking around the murk was coming to the top, but of course their feet were doing it. The real test for good water is that the fish bite.
