    Question JIG PAINTING

Hey, folks, I would like your opinion on painting jig heads. I have tried the powder paint and it was okay, but the eyes of the hook got filled up as well.

So, the other day, while watching my granddaughter paint her fingernails, I got an idea. I went to Walmart and bought me a couple of bottles of fingernail polish. I painted some lead jigheads I had in my tackle box and then put a clearcoat over the top of the glitter-based fingernail polish. I thought they looked pretty dog-gone good. Plus, I could keep the polish out of the hook eyes. And, with the glitter in the polish, they sure do sparkle.

Have any of you ever used fingernail polish before? If so, how did it hold up under fishing conditions? Any input will be appreciated.

I have never tried fingernail polish, but don't know why it won't work. Plus it would be easy to touch up. When I dip my jigs in powder paint, I hold the jig by the eye. This pretty well keeps the paint out of it. If I do get paint in the eye, it's pretty easy to clean out, if you do it before you cure them.

Paster I do a bobgill. I use needle nose pliers to hold the jig by the eye. First I heat it on the stove, it takes a little practice, then dip it in powder paint. Once it cools as you can see by the color I run it back over the flame to smooth it out and bake it on. Works great, but then again we don't have any rocks of anything to chip the paint. And if it does chip, I keep on fishing, they work just fine.

Yes, I have used finger nail polish. It worked fine, just could not stand the smell. I still use powder paint, and after dipping it, if needed,I run a small strand of copper thru the eye while it is still warm. If needed, I apply a little more heat to smooth out any ragged edge on the eye. Most paints go on perfectly, others need that second step….BC Good luck Pastor

Tried it years ago and it worked alright. Tried powder paint and it worked alright. Tried acrylic paint and it worked alright. But mostly over the last 20 years I just sent them out there in their birthday suits and that works alright too! LOL!
