Within a 30 minute drive of Shreveport is some of the best fishing in Louisiana. You have Cross Lake, Caddo Lake, Cypress- Black Bayou and Black Bayou in Hosston to name a few. He should not run out of places to go fishing if that's what he wants to do.

Like all lakes, it takes quite a while to figure out how to consistently catch fish on Caddo in particular--but it should be on the top of your list because it's one of the most beautiful lakes in the country. I suggest putting your boat in toward or on the Texas side such as Potter's Point for bass and Pelican Lodge for catfish, crappie, and bream.
I don't have much experience on Cross Lake, but it can be really good for drift fishing on bottom for catfish, and the upper end can be good for bass and bream. I've never fished for crappie on it. It's also a nice lake. Red River is also great for catfish. Sabine river at Logansport, LA is not that far and usually has some fun fishing in late winter and early spring for white bass, and shouldn't be ignored either. Shreveport is not a bad place at all for a fisherman to live! Black Bayou in Hosston is getting taken over by giant salvinia but is still pretty decent on crappie and bream--and until recently was the best bass lake in the area (in my opinion). I live very near Black Bayou, so I consider myself a decent judge of it. Bream are easy, but crappie and bass you do have to be a good fisherman to locate them.

Hey Sharphook. That's my home town. I fished there bout 10-12 years in local lakes and kept a very detailed fish log. All you need to do in download this Word document and open it in Microsoft word. Or if you don't have that you can download OpenOffice writer for free and it will open it.

Went out of Belle River a few weeks ago. Found some sacs in the zig zag area. Bass everywhere else I tried. My post should not be hard to find. HTH
