Default Please help with my dilemma

OK I have this new style jig that has a solid body and a good feel to it, but it takes a long time to do one and I don't yet have a way to do more at one time. I have to turn it to coat it and sometimes keep turning it for a short time. Re coat wait is about a hour and needs several coats to get it right.

I showed a pic of one the other day and here is one I made yesterday. I don't know how to make them and be able to sell them for a reasonable price. I just feel this is one find long lasting jig, not tried yet, but sill soon. Actually I don't need to try it to know it's going to work well, but I will anyway. Almost forgot, I intend on making these that the body glows also.

    Any opinions?

Here is a pic of the FL. Yellow one...

Well I don't know if this will help but I tied some solid body "jigs" for crappie once using fast cure epoxy. The stuff that finishes clear and dries in about 5 minutes. I would just dab a bit on there and spin it around to keep it semetrical. Took about 3 minutes to get stiff enough to hang it up to dry.

I will post a couple pics of the epoxy baits I made if I can find them.

    Default powder coating

I have made jigs and used the powder coating powder......it seems to work fine and fast.....the key is to be able to heat the lead of the jig head hot enought to melt the powder but not hot enough to melt the lead. I found a good hot hair-dryer worked pretty good. It was a one coat dip and in a few minutes you were ready to work with it.
    Hope that helps....
I bought the powder coating at Bass Pro Shop.

I know some tie fly's with heat sensitive shrink wrap...like electricians use. Maybe you could use that (clear) instead of a liquid coating...

The thing that I really like about this stuff though is it's got a soft feel to it and feel real to the fish. I don't think I can do as many things with the other products you guy are talking about. It set fast enough really and I just want to do it where can leave them where they are after I put on a coat.

It's just going to be something I can't rush, but even if they cost a little more it shouldn't matter with how durable it is.

Thanks anyway guys I do appreciate the input!

Oh I see Skip. You are using something that is kinda soft after it cures. I was going to say I never had much luck with my "hard" lures but now I see that is not what you are making.

Cause I do think they spit those hard body lure pretty fast after they strike um...

This one ought to be durable, long cast, slow fall but without the problem of a hard lure. Good luck finding a method to make them faster. Maybe put a weedless system on the hook so they are not as easy to snag up and loose. I liked to tie my jigs on Oldham's Weedless jighead so I wouuld not loose them in tops when I was fishing Caddo a lot.

Fishin' Magician I can't wait to get to try these out and I did make one so far that the head and body glow. I have been hearing for some time now how well jigs that glow work during the day as well as night.

One of the things I consider about this stuff is it will feel more real to the fish when he bites it and it has been tested (so I have been told) catching sharks and Paraná.

I also am trying to find a good way to coat the feathers so they will be durable and keep their shape, but that is a little harder so far. So right now I am just making these with craft fur and real hair like deer or kip tails.

As far as losing them have you tried using braid line like Power Pro? You can still get your line size small and have stronger line even up to 20# test. With this I can usually just pull until the hook bends and get them back. Pliers fix the bend and back at them. I use hi-vis yellow as well as other more had to see colors, but I don't think it matters even if you use hi-vis, they still bite.
