    Pawpaw Gene,
I just placed an order for 3 of them to replace those cheaper plastics on the boys rods. I had been thinking about getting them and your post persuaded me.
I told Carolyn it was your fault. lol
    Thanks for your review.

    Default My Fly Reel

    Hey PPG,

    Thanks for the reply.

I jiged for years with a fly rod and reel. When I discovered Slatters of MS. I started using his reel and rods. When MR Salters went with his improved rod and reel I started using his too.

I like the reel at the top of the handle mo better. But like the rest of us I'll try anything once.

Looks like SP took his ball and went home. Hope he's okay. He's fun to play with.

Sneaky's ok. Talked with him earlier today. He's been busy in the salt, and doing book signing events.

    Gene, good review.

JR, what rod is that in the photo. I love those Tennessee handles. It allows you to balance out your outfit.

So Pete busy, can you imagine that. I never heard of being too busy to play.

Buster, I'll set her straight at the gathering. Of course you could buy me another one and I'd take all the blame. Ha.

Mr. Gene when you say the JB salter way do you mean holding the line with your off hand or being able to use your thumb to spin the reel to take up slack line?

Bruce, yes that's what I'm talking about. Using your off hand to hold the line and pitch the jig. Only with this reel you don't need to hold pressure on the spool as the reel has a drag. Here is a picture of it mounted on the bottom seat rod I just won from CDC. As you can see there is a lot of space between the line and the pole which I like. On JB's set up you don't have that space as his reel mounting is different. My new pole seems to balance out nicely with the reel hanging below the pole.

Dang Gene that almost looks like a fly reel, but I kind of like the way it looks. I usually have a high dollar spinning reel on all my rods, but I may have to consider giving one of these a try on my jig poles, kind of like the look! Thanks for sharing!
