    Default Grass shrimp

I've been asked about grass shrimp and I thought I'd share my response with the Forum.

"I haven't used grass shrimp in over 20years. I used a tube jig that looks like a grass shrimp. Clear with pepper flakes also blue white with sparkles/glitter.
To catch grass shrimp, get a net with fine mesh and a long handle 6' or so. Drag the net along grass growing in the canals if your in a boat or ditch if your bank fishing. I dump em in a 5gallon bucket. Yes, they will be harder to fine in the winter but they are there. I usually use only a hook with no weight when fishing shallow, 6' or less water.
They (grass shrimp)will catch sacs because it's one of it's natural food in south LA. For y'all that have caught and seen how grass shrimp jump around, remember to try to give your tube jig the same action for more bites. If you don't get bit on the slow fall.
Your can freeze grass shrimp with some corn meal in a butter dish."

Grass shrimp (live) is as good as it gets. They are better than shiners if live. Go very light on the tackle. Popular in the Lake Verret area. They live in you guessed it, grass and also they love the water hysinth (sp?) or water lilly root system. The fish pick um off under and in that cover.

The largest ones I've seen out of Caddo when the water is high were about 1 ". Don't think I've eve seen any at 1/8. I could imagine that being a little hard to hook! Only thing I don't like about using them is the bream snatch them off the hook too easily and I'm having to rebait constantly!
