You North La. guys are making me real envious with some of these catches, especially on the bend. I have not fished there in 10 years. Just forgot how good the quality is on the sacalait. A two pounder in the basin is something to call the paper about. This warm spell has got me beat three trips last week totaled 6 fish. I have recently started spider rigging, but have not mastered it yet. could use any suggestions.

    Default spider rigging tactics

fishin magician is the man to talk to about spider rigging. he will gladly steer you towards any and all info he has on the subject, which is plentiful. I suggest getting Tim Huffman's "Winning Crappie Secrets," available at your local basspro or online. this book covers the subject EXTENSIVELY. it is really useful. FM said he wishes he would have read that two years ago, as it would have saved him alot of time and heartbreak.

    hope this helps!

    Welcome aboard Redstick!

You will like the crappie.com La boards. A lot of good people and information in here. Labill is a great host as our moderator.

But anyways on the subject of spider fishing. Sonar Mark is correct about that Huffman book it has a bunch of good information about the tactic. It was very strange to me how much in that book was exactly how I fished. I told him, "all the way down to their net looks like mine". lol they were using a long handled net which is nice to have to net slabs without tangling lines.

If I could say one thing about spider rigging that is most important is boat control. You need to go slow. A couple tools for slowing the boat are drift socks and tow chains. Both work very well and if it’s really windy you can use them at once. A good way to monitor speed is the angle of your lines from your pole to the water. Also use large weights when fishing both jigs and bait to keep lines vertical. Depending on depth and wind that can be anywhere from 1/4 oz to 1oz. I also spider rig lighter jigs w/o added weight at times but that is usually only in dense cover w/ weedless jig heads or in shallow water. (less then 10 feet)

I am by no means an expert... I have only been spider rigging a couple years. Only reason I got into it was I fished 7 or 8 rods without rod holders and figured I needed a place to set them besides the ice chest handle.
