Talking North/La Takes N Vs S Larto Tourney

Fishin Magician, his two fishing partners Mark & Bill, Percher & Rod & Reel took 1st & 2nd place in the N Vs S Larto Tourney Sat. Dec. 10 2005. North Louisiana took the honors of winning the first annual N Vs S Crappie Tournament. It was a close battle but we were victorius. Deacon should be posting the actual weights of every team this weekend or next week. I was leading big fish with 1lb 7 ounces by our digital scale, til the Magician reached in his big ole hat and pulled some tricks out of his hat at the last minute before weigh-in, and I was watching him catch a 1 lb 8.5 ounce to nudge me out. The weather was extremely cold with the wind howling and the lake whitecapping, which made us have to fish the Bayous. Everyone had a great time, it was great to meet the people face to face that we communicate with on Crappie.Com. We fileted all the fish that was caught in the tournament Saturday and had one big ole fishfry that night by the campfire while fishing stories and tales were being told and "BEVERAGES" were being consumed. It was relatively a small turnout, but the ones that braved the cold weather had a great time. Those of you who missed it, missed a great time but maybe next tournament times will be better and we will be looking forward to a hugh turnout.

Us North La. boys would like to thank Slabhunter for taking us out Friday and actually showing us some "HOT" spots to catch fish. We couldn't have done it without you SH.

PS-SH I left my motorhome at D'Arbonne State Park today in space #29 right across from you & Anna. See you Wednesday at D'Arbonne, were going to limit out each day. Look out Crappie the "SLABHUNTER" and the notorius
"ROD & REEL" will be out "BOUNTY HUNTING" for you. Later R & R

These are what I was winning the tournament with, until Fishin Magician nudged me out at the last minute.

This is the fish that took 1st Place. Congrats FM.

This boat is for sale, only runs on half the cylinders, trolling motor button won't work. The fisherman couldn't even make it to the tournament with it.
Do we have any offers? Just kidding SH, I know you were out of your element Saturday. Hope you get everything fixed by Wednesday.

Fishin Magician telling Slabhunter. I caught my big fish on this real tiny itty bitty teeny weeny super small micro jig. Slabhunter replying "Well I'll Be Dam.."

    Smile Man what a blast!

Man what a blast I had at Larto, and want to thank everyone for the good time!
I tried to get on the fish but like Rod & Reel said, things weren't going my way
I was very excited to see Fishin Magician come thru, and do so good. That fellor and his bunch really hustle to catch and can do well anywhere they go.

The best part of the whole deal was seeing everyone. I like you all, and think Percher & Fishin Magician should open up a seafood resturant...:D
Them fried sac-a-lait was to die for.....

Many thanks to everyone....... I love you all!

Actually I am thinking of selling the boat Rod & Reel. I should have everything fixed today, if I'll get off this computer before it breaks....hehehehehe:D

Default Had alot of fun last 3 days...

Thanks Treefrog and Slab Hunter, we were happy as slabs in a shad house.

I can't say this enough... crappie fishermen are just good people. Everyone at the get together was so easy to get along with. I had a great time. Thanks allot Deacon and LaBill for getting this together. Also Thanks to Benthook and Mrs. Benthook for their use of facilities at the weigh in and fish fry. Thanks to Slab Hunter for showing us where to fish. And thanks to everyone else for being such good peoples. Yall were really nice to hold this gathering... we should do it again next year!

lol nice one RnR! but nah it was a crappie hook with a chartruse jig skirt tipped with a rosie red. Overall bait was about 3 inches long! Was the only fish I caught on it all day...

Fishin' was awesome. Slab Hunter put us on um Friday even in the cold windy conditions. We caught big ones in the lake and numbers in the bayous. Our boat ended up with 30 keepers.

Saturday the weather was better. A little overcast but it was not as windy so we could stay out on the lake to fish. We got lucky out there and 42 crappie jumped in our boat. We were drifting around w/ socks trolling rosie reds on the bottom. Bill and Mark got their bigguns early and I got my big fish just before the weigh in!

Sunday Billy had to head out so we took up camp in the morning so he could hit the road. Mark and I headed to the bayous to catch some more numbers. We fished in the bayou almost to where it hits Saline Lake. Action was good and picked up a couple big ones. Mark caught biggest crappie to date a beauty at 15" and 1 lb 12 ozes. Once we had a mess of fish from the bayou (41) we hit the lake for one last drift at sunset. We were using a couple "drag" rigs that we had been catching fish on in the bayou and Mark "hooked" into something big. It came up and boiled and when I saw how big it was I pulled the crappie rods up and started chasing it with the trolling motor. It came up and jumped clear out the water. A huge 4 foot + spoonbill catfish had gotten the line wrapped around its bill. He tired out quickly from a couple runs and the jump and we scooped him into the boat! What a way to end an awesome weekend of fishing!!!

ok enough words lets see the PICTURES!

First a link to Slab Hunter pic of the group... I don't think I got one with everyone in it.

    Default Mo pics...

Here are a few pictures of Mark's rod and reel caught Spoonbill Catfish! Was not hooked at all the line just got wrapped around his snout. We released him nice and healthy after a couple pictures.

We had him on a leash to let him get his breath back before his photo session... lol just a loop around his paddle nose.

    They look so strange...

    Mark with the fish...

    Default Me too

I sure had a great time hanging out with everyone and hope to do the same many times in the future. You fellers are my kind of people! If only I could get more time off work. Larto is a great lake and I wish it was closer so I could fish it more. Special thanks to SH for all his help and tips on Friday. We wouldn't have done very well without you. I'm excited about trying your secret jig rig on my home lakes this week.
I don't think I've ever wore so many clothes at one time. I've never gotten that cold fishing before, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks to everyone and looking forward to doing it again very soon. Don
