I had permission to fish back there when the old man was still alive. He was really nice. When he passed his son took over, I didn't know him really well but he let me fish as long as I didn't leave any trash around. Then his son sold the land to the developers who started building those homes. They were calling the sheriff whenever they saw a vehicle parked and no one on the bridge.
Before I bought a 16' flat I fished the area from a 12' flat. If you're interested in big bass put that flat in on the other side of the levee right past the old bridge. Be careful, there's gators over there in the summer.
I've seen people hit that drainage pipe and around the bridge pilings, and even witness the pipe turning on when someone was nearby!
I use to fish that river 4 days a week back when i lived in Covington. It can be a hard place to fish if you don't understand the habits of sacalait. Many of the places I know of would be hard for you to get to.
I'm not like that over fishing spots...
The boardwalk is divided by a cluster of trees, the stump field is on the right side if you're standing at the state park looking at the river. It starts from the right side of those trees to the end of the boardwalk. There's a gradual dropoff there that starts around 4' right at the boardwalk and hits 30' towards the middle of the river. The stumps start to spread out the further east you go, but they stretch to the end of the boardwalk.
I've seen northshore on the BCKFC site, I know he owns a kayak! I got into kayak fishing a few days before I was going to make a boat purchase. I went for a demo through Pack and Paddle in Lafayette and never looked back. I joined LKFC to learn about areas to fish, and for the company on trips. We're not nearly as big as Bayou Coast, have a mixture of age and experience levels, and have a few women within the club that can fish their tails off! I really enjoy it.
Our trip on the 13th is open to visitors, however you must be in paddle craft (no motors of any kind) and sign a guest wavier. There are member who have kayaks that they loan if you're interested and don't have one. Just need to find a member who's going and has an extra. Check out our site at lafayettekayakfishing.com
I go by Prototype on the forums.
