Default Stinkin' up Cave Run 5-5-09

With easy access places on the river being up and muddy I decided to go a little further out of the way and give good ol' cave run a shot. I got there around 1 and fished til 5........nada but a nice smallie and a lil' kentuck. Water temp was 64-65 ranging from head to scotts creek to mouth. Didn't try anything over 10' because of fishfinder issues, but I covered about 8' up into shallow pretty well. Water clarity was 4 ft+ in most places. Tried jigs, roadrunner, grubs, minners and no takers(crappie). I figure they are still on brush out deeper in the 15-20 ft range in the mouths but can't do much good on that stuff rite now without my fishfinder outta commish. I usually do well there a little later into the year when the water gets up in the buckbrush and is a little murkier, the water was up in the buckbrush but not much happenin there. Ya know theyre in there......oh well. gonna fix my unit and hopefully get back out soon. Not many boats out at all, anybody else been up there lately?

Thanks for the report. I'm hoping to get to the Cave either this weekend or by Wednesday at the latest. I usually fish out of Poppin' Rock.

I'm stuck working. but I believe the creek fishing will be good when the water goes back down. Can't wait.

I never fished there but recently got the itch to try there mainly because I heard there was a boat-in only camp ground. I will probably wait a little while and hit it at night under the lights. Anyone know anything about the campground I mentioned?

Boat in camp ground is near the Clay Licks boat ramp. Never camped there but go past it about every time I'm on the Cave. Gets pretty good use I think. Has 20 camp sites and is run by the U.S. Forestry Service. Cave Run Lake

I went back up the the Cave on 5-7-09 to probe a little deeper water spider rigging, wind made it tough on the better spots. Still no slabs, put in a Warix and was expecting to fish some KDFWR brushpiles out in about 25 ft. but little did I know they are no longer MARKED, used to have fish attractor bouys marking them(used to catch em' good on those piles). Without my sonar workin I went up in some of the creeks and spider rigged and casted around in 8-12ft. Temp was around 64-65 and water was up but had great color too it. I wanna try beaver creek if I can get a full day to fish in and get my finder fixed. Did catch another smallie and a dink largemouth. I gotta get my transducer fixed so that every spot I pull up on isn't
602 ft. deep with Tons of cover.....lol!!!!
