    Default Cave Run

I have only been fishing Cave Run for a couple of years and it never fails to continually frustrate me! I have had marginal luck fishing the lake up the river as well as Leatherwood. To me, it seems like the fish hold deep all year (10-15 ft) and never come up. Minnows and popeyes seem to work equal. I have not been able to find a predominate color.

Alot the old-timers saw that the musky population has taken a toll on crappie numbers???? Others have told me that it is not a very fertile lake for crappie and the numbers are low. But, I kind of question that because I have caught some nice fish from the lake.

My question is this: For those of you that fish on a regular basis, am I patterning the fish correctly or, am I misisng something?

I have fished the Cave for years with much frustration too. I've had days where I caught a limit of keepers in a few hours and long days when I'd catch zip, nada. nothing. My normal outing is to catch unlimited numbers of short fish. Like you I feel that the fish hold fairly deep most of the year. I always joke that the crappie spawn at Cave Run last about 15 or 20 minutes and I never seem to be there at that time. Still, it beats working. Like the above post says, try the Poppin' Rock area. I do the best there. Good luck.
