I havent fished for Crappie in Tville in last 3 years. When a kid we fished that stretch of river caught good Crappie back then. Started Crappie fishing in the lake after it was built for years. But now with so much fishing boat traffic i quit going there. Its just 20 minutes from my house. Now it gets FISHED HARD for Crappie. I venture to say A LOT of short fish are kept. Several over the limits taken. All the years I fished it. Never once saw a Game Warden on it. Id say there has been but ive never seen one. Green has gotten the sameway. Green gets crowded to. With the decline of Ky Lake many have ventured to these 2 lakes. They see no need to travel hours to go to Ky Lake when they can catch at Tville and Green with less travel. What F&W can do to help? I Dont know.

There is still good fishing at Tville based on my experience. Chowning is about a 20 min drive for me so I go there fishing majority of the time. I will use Settlers during the pleasure boating off season but when the warm weather returns I switch back to Chowning. The lake does get busy no doubt and fishing the main lake channel is not enjoyable when the wake boats start running up and down it. When that happens I stay beyond the no ski buoys.

I believe these high gas prices will slow that down a bit but I could be wrong.

[QUOTE=Quailtail;4268304]They haven't done a thing on KY lake. It used to be the premier Crappie Lake. They let it die. Taylorsville is no different. The department has its eyes focused on Elk, Deer and Turkey. To heck with the people that fish, quail hunt, grouse hunt, or rabbit hunt. Thats just the facts. Prove me wrong if you can.[/

If 2020 didn’t have an effect of fish population. I don’t know what else will!

Bait stores looked like the mall on Christmas Eve every day of the week.

Boat ramp looked like a Saturday everyday of the week. How Long Will It Last? How Long Will It Last?

Fishing below the no ski buoys is no sure bet but it is nothing like fishing the “Racetrack”, the stretch between the fork in the lake where you can head into little beech or head upriver. So many good spots I won’t touch until the fall because of the traffic.

My brother and I got to fish one day there this year. We caught a lot of short fish, and we caught some keepers as well. Fished Green River this year with a guide on two occasions, and by myself a number of times. Caught keepers on every trip. Caught a lot of shorts on every trip too. If you are looking for 12 to 14 inch fish, I am of the opinion you got to go south. Cumberland might be the exception.

I also wonder how these insane gas prices are going to affect boat traffic. For pleasure boaters pulling or cruising all day makes an expensive outing. Taylorsville being so close to Louisville will always get hammered, but Crappie reproduce like crazy and I always catch all sizes which tells me the lake is in pretty good shape for the future. I believe the KYDNR does a good job, in fact I wish they were in charge of Patoka lake, maybe then that lake would make a return.
