Looks like it would work.
I used to troll in a Skeeter bass boat with a single rod stuck between my back and the seat while pulling a 5 gallon bucket to slow it down. Caught fish then too.

I have a small 16ft with 40HP 4 stroke. I think my 'idle' speed is 1.2mph(no wind). I just need to know if I can do some 'cranking' for crappie without spending a pile of money on a remote/GPS trolling motor system to pull cranks in the up coming months. I plan to put rod holders in the rear of the boat, and have my fishing partner watch the 4 poles directly behind the boat while I keep up with the boat watching for depth/cover. I may get a 12-16' pole to hold while I'm keeping up with the boat to keep me occupied. Does anything about this make sense to you guys/gals?

I troll from a boat with a tiller also. I found it's easier to control speed and direction in reverse.

MR, Johnny, thanks for the reply. My brother is now hooked on 'crankin' for Crappies and is now my new found fishing partner after one Day with MR at KY/Barkley lake guide trip. So, I now only have about 10-12 cranks for crappie, none are Picos. So, If anyone has suggestions on what I should get if I was to buy 20-30 Pico cranks to fish with in the future. I would like to know colors, size/depth range to get a 'basic' set of about 30 lures. I plan to go to Green, Taylorsville, or Cave Run to try them out if things work out.
M R Dux thanked you for this post
Green would be a good place to try them out on. Plenty of fish on the flats once the shad spawn is over and the thermocline sets up. Probably some on them now.

Keep your eye on the Personal Classifieds Forum ... there are occasions when members sell cranks in bunches (sm. & lrg bunches).
Just be sure and have at least 3 of every color combo, and replace lost ones as soon as you can. You definitely don't want to have only one color/combo crank, because that will "almost always" be the one that catches the most fish until you lose it to a brushpile, Muskie, Walleye, or big catfish.
C55's from wlure.com is an option ...
