Hardcore!! Congrats on a great trip.
I've had folks asking about water temps on the lake. Thanks for passing that info along. The temps didn't get anywhere that low last winter and led to a very early spring bite.
Made it up to Springville this past weekend, took a vacation day to get on the water Friday which looked like weather wise it would be the best day for fishing. By the time we got all the cloths on and to the ramp it was 8:30. Backed the boat down the ramp and when I went to undo the transom saver the trim moved real slow, I jumped to a trolling battery and it worked just fine, battery was down. We went back to the cabin and I borrowed one of the guys duck hunting (with permission) deep cell batteries. We left the ramp headed out to the power lines at a little after 9:00. Spent a little time side scanning and showed a lot of fish in the 18' to 22' water range so we rigged up and followed the channel out by the power lines running our jigs at 14 - 16 deep trolling in 18 - 22 fow. First fish came at the 20 minute mark and it was a keeper. We worked that stretch for an hour then moved out towards the mouth of Sandy, marked a lot of fish but no bites, water was getting pretty stained so we moved back headed to West Sandy. Water was a little clearer, temperatures were in the 38.6 to 38.8 range everywhere we went. Following the creek channel ledge we hit a 100 yard stretch where we caught 2 more keepers so we went back through the same path. we stayed going back and forth in that stretch till 2:00. Caught 42 shorts and had 10 keepers, nothing over 12" but it was a beautiful day. Only saw two boats all day. Saturday we went out and hit the same spot, didn't mark any concentrations of fish like the day before and only caught a couple shorts so we called it a day, it was windier which made it seem 40 degrees colder than the day before. We slow trolled hot grubs at .4 - .6 mph with Berkeley crappie nibbles, best color was pink/chart and Popsicle. Water conditions permitting we'll be back in a couple weeks. Hopefully the ice will be gone.....hopefully!
Happy New Year to all,
Ray
