Certainly will be hard to replace Paul I think he is very good at his job.

While Paul may be retiring, he is leaving behind the results of his hard work and dedication. We have one of the best (if not the best) fisheries in the US. Anglers come from all over the country to fish KY and Barkley lakes. This is due in no small part to what Paul Rister has done over the years to make it that way. All of those anglers bring their money and spend it here in our state. Ky Dept of Fish and Wildlife could write Paul a check for $1,000,000 (they won't) and they would still come out way ahead on the revenue his hard work has brought to Ky. Even if they did, I know where the first 10% would go. Adam Martin has been named Paul's successor. I don't believe Paul would let them put someone in his position if he didn't have complete confidence in his ability to do the job. I haven't met Adam, but I do know Paul and if he trusts Adam, then I do too.
Adam, welcome and know that we appreciate what you bring to the table to make Ky one of the best fisheries in the US. Look forward to meeting you soon. Paul never would let me borrow his shocking boat to fish blood river, so I guess I'll have to start pestering you about using it now.
Paul, thank you for your many years of hard work, dedication, and the example you set for others to emulate. Hope we can go fishing sometime now that you are gonna have all that extra time on your hands. I am honored to call you my friend.
Bill
I've talked to Paul a couple times at the shindig and also at the Murray, Ky boat show. I've always been impressed at the way he was willing to share information and give his opinions on how to make our fishery better. I also remember at the first shindig I was at that he got some combos out of his truck and gave them to a couple of the kids there.
He even came down to Paris, Tn. when the TWRA folks were having a meeting to discuss the poor spawns and size of the crappie in the lake.
If he reads this thread I hope he sees how much we all appreciate his efforts. I also hope he has a long and happy retirement. He's definitely earned it.
Reason he is retiring is cause I told him I could smell bedding bream. Of course, I don't believe he believed me or Vonna. I bet he gonna go do some Bream Smell Research. A new era is on the horizon.

Thanks Paul for being visible to all of us who chase something we cannot see but dream of. Thanks for all the Shindigs you've attended and for fielding our questions and mingling with us as we worry, hopefully more than we should. At next year's Shindig we'd like to see you there out of uniform, relaxed eating fish, fries, hush puppies, and cobblers right along with us. Enjoy your retirement!
Adam you've got some big history shoes to fill. Don't be overwhelmed, we've got you're back.
