These lakes are for flood control PERIOD. Most Corps and TVA big wheels don't know or care there are fish in the lakes. Somewhere in a room in front of a monitor, some person is projecting rainfall a couple of hundred miles south and east of us.The lake levels are managed according to what a weatherman is saying and they are typically wrong 80+% of the time.

For that, we get to tend with mud flats and sandbars. I'm glad I can set my depth off-set and shallow water warning on my LakeMaster cards.

Barren is at 558, summer pool is 552'. Main gates are open .2 with anticipation of an additional .4 opening for a total of .6 as of 7:00am 9/05/17. Better hang on it's headed your way.

Labor day weekend, and they have the lake sitting 1 foot above winter pool!!! You still have the same holiday boaters, Lake lice idiots that probably don't even pay attention to lake levels!!!

Bandchaser, LMAO, not at you but with you, key word, "thought process" there is no thought process, this is the problem. Some big wig is sitting in a chair as MRDUX said and he tells some flunky, drain it, he responds "yes sir" out goes the water, no questions asked, of course we don't see what is going on behind the scenes. I do know this, after 30 years in military and government service, this is the canned response" "This is the way we have always done it and if you don't like quit" whether it makes sense or not. I guess at the end of the day I'm thankful to live on the lake and enjoy it before some flunky is directed to drain it and man did they drain it, lol.

I know rapid fluctuations in levels are not good for fishing, but I'll take 355 everyday.

Rapid fluctuations describes the Meldahl pool of the Ohio river to a tee.

I understand that the twin lakes are for flood control, and they don't give a rip about the fishery.
But, there was not a catastrophic flood occurring. One day the current thru KY dam reached over 130,000 cfs. And the current rule curve for KY Lake is the 356' window. I believe that 354.9' is not in that window, and their current rule curve is showing it to be 1' below the rule curve.
I question their thought processes because somebody got button pushin' happy, and dumped too much water to quickly. Huge swings play a tole on all kinds of industry, river industry, commercial fishing, guides and recreational fishing and boating.
Whoever did it needs a swift kick in the arse!!!!
