Heading down to Barkley for some bluegill and Shellcracker fishing. Has anyone been catching them yet? I am also concerned with the dip in temperatures this week. Do you think it will have a big impact on the bite? thx

IMHO ... you "may" be a couple of weeks too early
I've always had better luck with them during the Full Moon in May (several days before & after), and this year the Full Moon is on the 21st.
Now, I've only specifically targeted them at Cedar Creek Lake (Ky), so I don't know if that translates equally to the big lakes (Ky/Barkley).
I caught six crackers today on a short 2 hour trip. They were all males and colored up for spawning duties. They were not the really big crackers that I'm used to seeing but very good eating size.
These were caught in 3-4ft of water in the back of bays.
I know the Little League thing well! I've been catching bluegill, a few redear and more catfish than I care to eat. The cats are REALLY clean and good eating down here. I think the redear are a few days off.
Water temp today (Sunday) at North Ky Lake was 72.4° in my Sonar class ...
Checked 2 separate bream beds teaching my student ... Not a spec one on SI indicating fish on those 2 beds ...
